Guidance only, based on typical PVC-insulated copper wire in conduit at 30–40 °C and common Pakistani wiring practice. Long runs, hot roofs and bunched cables need larger sizes. Always have wiring installed and checked by a licensed electrician.
Frequently asked questions
Which wire is used for a 1.5 ton AC in Pakistan?
A 1.5 ton inverter AC normally gets its own circuit in 7/.036 (about 4 mm²) copper wire with a 16 A or 20 A breaker. For runs longer than about 25 m, or a non-inverter AC with high starting current, go one size up to 7/.044.
Is 3/.029 wire enough for lights and fans?
Yes. Lights and ceiling fans draw little current, so 3/.029 (about 1.5 mm²) on a 10 A breaker is the usual choice for lighting circuits.
Which wire should I use for sockets?
General sockets for TVs, fridges, irons and washing machines are normally wired in 7/.029 (about 2.5 mm²) with a 16 A breaker. Heavy appliances such as ACs and geysers should have their own circuit.
Which wire goes from the meter to the distribution board?
For a typical single-phase house the main line is 7/.044 or 7/.052 copper, depending on the total load and the distance. Enter your appliances above to see the size for your home.
Do I need an earth wire?
Yes. Every socket and every AC or geyser circuit should have an earth wire of the same size as the live wire. It protects people from shock if an appliance develops a fault.
